FEMME FRIDAY // Ashley Wood
I first met Ashley a few years ago when she so graciously featured me in the beginning phases of her vegan food and wellness blog. Since then I have watched her generate a prolific amount of content and recipes from her home in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Her dedication to a plant based lifestyle is inspiring, and from afar she has proven that a vegan pregnancy is most definitely doable. All of her recipes are delicious, approachable, and beautiful.
Her commitment to a plant based lifestyle is as much about the nutrition as it is about the ethics, which I find very inspiring. In the insta world that fluctuates with every hormone or inclination I very much appreciate people who are committed to a cause that goes beyond themselves.
Although we have never met in person, we stay in touch regularly. There is something about becoming a mother together that deeply connects you to someone, and when I see pictures of her with her daughter I can literally feel the inexplicable love.
Ashley is sweet, creative and inspiring - and even if you don't go all veg there are plenty of good reasons to eat more of what she is making!
Thank you Ashely!
Your 3 Word Bio
Mindful Mother Making it Happen
(sorry that’s more than three words…)
One thing the internet doesn't know about you?
I’m answering this question last – it’s very hard! I suppose I share a lot about my life online, but not everything, and choosing a snippet that I’ve never shared is a challenge.
I have a deep connection with my paternal Grandmother. Although she passed in 2009, I don’t feel like she’s gone. I still see her in my dreams, hear her voice guiding me and think about her on a daily basis. I like to believe that she’s watching over my daughter as well. They would have loved each other a lot.
The can't live without it daily ritual that keeps you inspired?
I can’t live without fresh air. I live in the North, in Winnipeg, Canada and last year it was named one of the ten coldest places on Earth. We have extreme weather (think: 100 degrees F in the summertime and -40 degrees F in the wintertime) but there’s something about the changing seasons that excites me and inspires me so much. My daughter and I go for walks (almost) every day and breathing in the fresh air, looking up at the sky and simply just BEING outside always inspires me, no matter how warm or cold it is outside.
What is in your desert island cosmetic bag, and how do you use it?
Mascara. I don’t wear a lot of make-up at all, but there’s something about slapping on some mascara that makes me feel put together.
And since we are on an island... what's your favorite way to use coconut?
Oh gosh, what do I NOT use it for? I cook with it, I bake with it, straight up coconut oil is the only make-remover I use, I use it on my baby when I change her…coconut is a staple in our home!
What impression do you want to leave?
To live and to let live, to love and to let love.
I hope people remember me as someone who practices what I preach – to live with kindness, honesty, and authenticity., to listen and never stop learning, to cherish my loved ones and fiercely protect my family and to always respect the Earth and all of her creatures.
xo LOVE!
Ashley
